About the Image(s)

October Submission- Boston Dawn with California Haze
I love taking pictures down on the Boston Fish Pier and Black Falcon Pier. It appears there is always something going on, or some unique opportunity. I took this image shortly after sunrise on September 16, 2020. The smoke from the west coast fires had travelled across the country and I expected that it would be a very hazy sunrise.
Focal length 18mm, 1/45 at f/22, ISO 200
I cropped and cleaned up the image. I removed some trash from the foreground, a few distant towers, and a kayaker in the distance. I bumped up the yellows and oranges and used the Pro Contrast filter from NIK which drew out some additional detail in the water.
I am concerned that I may have bumped the yellows and oranges too much, although I was looking for a dramatic image.

I like the composition of your image, especially how the two piers lead the eye to the sunset. I'm especially impressed about how you kept the entire image in focus, from the nearest to the farthest points. I don't think you bumped up the oranges and yellows too much. They seem very natural to me.   Posted: 10/21/2020 08:31:29

What a beautiful sunrise. I feel the right orange and yellow color. I like the cranes, they provide the scale and depth to the image. The left pier is a bit distraction. It could be better without it. Great work.   Posted: 10/21/2020 14:34:15

By the way, I was in east Sierra last week. The smoke from creek fire covered the whole Sierra, a hundred mile long mountain range, from mtn Whitney to highway 120 to Yosemite NP.
