Pensacola Beach Boardwalk by Nancie Clark

January 2020 - Pensacola Beach Boardwalk

About the Image(s)

Before Christmas, I went to the Pensacola Beach Lighted Boat Parade. It wasn't as large as I thought it would be. while I was waiting I took this shot from the pier off the Boardwalk. I really liked the reflections.

Settings: ISO 200 f6.3 1.6sec This is a 3 shot pano.

Lots of things to like about this image: You did a masterful job of getting the perfect exposure in order to capture the lights. You got some lovely reflections in the water. And it was all sharply focused. Can't think of a thing to improve this one.   Posted: 01/06/2020 06:39:43

It is a well balanced composition and tells a good story of urban life. I also love the color tune of the image: a sense of warmness. One thing I could try is to reduce the highlight and increase shadow with either LR or PS. The bright dots compete the attention.   Posted: 01/06/2020 12:03:50

Thanks John! I will give it a try, I understand what you are saying. I really would prefer the reflections be the attention grabber.   Posted: 01/14/2020 20:37:23

I also like this image. I don't know if you have the data, but I might leave a little more sky above the tallest building.   Posted: 01/17/2020 05:32:02

Nice shot. I always love reflection pictures like this. I also like the starburst lights, but not sure how you did that at f6.3. You generally need f16 or so to get that. I assume you were on a tripod. If so, my suggestion would be to also try taking an even longer exposure to smooth out the water more and see how it looked.   Posted: 01/23/2020 08:37:51

Beautiful color and what an exciting night to be out shooting. I agree a longer exposure would smooth the water but I don't know about blowing out the highlights too much. Some people would do a long exposure and then a shorter one and put them together for the best of both worlds, but I myself wouldn't be the one good at doing that. Beautiful light and makes me wish I were there.   Posted: 01/23/2020 19:57:41
