Sunrise at East Sierra Mountain by John Zhu

October 2019 - Sunrise at East Sierra Mountain

About the Image(s)

Taken at sunrise days ago at East Sierra. This is composed with six shots: two stitch and each of the two is three shots HDR. I have been to this spot each year, five times already. But only the first time encountered the beautiful weather. It's hard to catch the best landscape! Please pass your thoughts on coloring and composition.

This is a great composition. Although the general rule states that the horizon, such as distant shoreline, shouldn't be in the middle, rules can be broken. In your case, having the image perfectly divided to create a mirror copy of the mountain ranges in the glassy smooth lake is just perfect. I do think the colors are quite garish and overly saturated. They don't look natural to me. That's an easy adjustment to make in your post-processing.   Posted: 10/08/2019 17:26:23

I also get a comment from a friend stating it's over saturated. Will try different color tunes. Thanks for your feedback!   Posted: 10/08/2019 19:38:19

With regard to composition, I'd like a little more distance between the mountain peak and the top of the image. I might desaturate the yellows a little. Nice image.   Posted: 10/09/2019 18:42:50
