Boat Chasing the Sunset by Nancie Clark

August 2019 - Boat Chasing the Sunset

About the Image(s)

I took this a some time ago here in Pensacola near Fort Pickens. Since I just moved here, I thought it was fitting. I'm looking forward to getting out and doing lots more water photography!!

Shot on a tripod. 48mm lens 1/640 f11 ISO 500

Nice photo. Since you have the time living where you do, I would suggest trying a long exposure to see if it smooths out the water nicely. If it works, I'd love to see it.   Posted: 08/14/2019 13:35:11

Thanks Marla! Yes, I want to get out more and try longer exposures. This was taken from the Fort Pickens beach area and I haven't been back there yet. I'll share when I do.   Posted: 08/16/2019 20:25:23

It's a beautiful capture of sunset. I love the color and the ray of light. The reflection adds the beauty. The only thing I like to change is to put the sun in the middle unless something on the right to balance the composition.   Posted: 08/14/2019 17:07:56

Thanks John! It may be in the middle on my original shot. I thought I read it shouldn't be in the middle to I cropped it off center. I do like it vertical! It feels like more of a sense of moving away. Thanks for the suggestion!   Posted: 08/16/2019 20:27:47

I agree with comments of others, Nancie. In addition, and it's and "artists" choice, I might desaturate the blue sky.   Posted: 08/17/2019 09:53:27

Thank you Gordon! I will try desaturating and see how I like it. Thanks!   Posted: 08/19/2019 18:26:14

I agree with John about making it horizontal and placing the sun in the lower part of the horizon.

Did you leave New Mexico???   Posted: 08/21/2019 07:32:57

Thanks Mike! I will play around with it more. Yes, I moved to Pensacola, FL the beginning of July. NM just wasn't the right place for me. A new place to explore!!   Posted: 08/24/2019 12:23:59

This is a nice image and I also prefer the vertical version.   Posted: 08/23/2019 02:53:02

Thanks Theresa! I think cropping out the darker clouds does help. Makes it more about the sunset and boat. Thanks!   Posted: 08/24/2019 12:25:14

It's a gorgeous image! I like the blue sky and don't find it too saturated for my taste. I might like to see a bit cropped on the right side, but not necessarily as much as John did. I like the dark clouds and LOVE those rays of light.
It's just pretty any which way.
Now that you are on the east coast when I submit at midnight it will be in the middle of the night to you.   Posted: 08/29/2019 18:06:42
