October 2020 - Canvas for the Sky

About the Image(s)

The Yuan Yang Rice Terrace in Yunnan Province of China has been around for more than 300 years. It is a way of life for those farmers to plant their crop on a mountainous region in southwestern China. Every Fall, (this images was taken in mid October), the fields would be flood with water for 2 weeks before seedlings are planted. This popular photographic area was made famous by our our guide’s father who was the author of a table top photo book that was published 20 years ago. I stood there shoulder to shoulder with 40+ other photographers from all over the world trying to capture the moments when the color of the sky is mirrored in these rice terraces.
Camera detail: Canon EOS R, 300mm, 1/16 sec at 1/180 sec.

Hi San, this is my dream place for photography in China. This place is not included in ordinary China Tour from Indonesia. Only specific photography tour visit this place. I have made a pre-book, but Covid Pandemic ruin the plan. This photo just awesome, two thumbs up, you shoot at the right time from the right place. I like you focus on one particular spot with 300 mm lens. I also like your finished image, I saw others over do editing it. Job well done.   Posted: 10/05/2020 00:40:15

By the way, the two walking farmers was it a setting or a blessing in disguise?   Posted: 10/05/2020 00:42:47

This image fits the genre of Abstract, Landscape, or Travel. It could also be divided into 2-3 more images held within and mounted as a triptych.

The repeating shapes, lines, curves with alternating dark and light areas bring orderliness to this watery world. The gorgeous color palette sets it off perfectly. The two figures make a strong supporting, anchoring element.

Well seen, captured and developed.   Posted: 10/13/2020 15:55:24

I love this. A beautiful composition, great colors, patterns and the 2 farmers which give it all scale. No suggestions. Love it the way it is. At first I thought it may be from drone, but I guess all the photographers were on a high spot looking down.   Posted: 10/15/2020 20:40:57

WOW! Lovely orange hour + patterns + farmers silhouettes and mirror image. Nice texture/details. Calming. Story telling. This is the kind of image that transport me in another word.
Very well mastered. Congratulation!   Posted: 10/16/2020 08:30:30

Terrific image ! Rich golden hues brought into harmonious shapes by dark umber/black bands. The two humans would be useful elements if a bit larger, although they do give so idea of scale ; however this image holds its own without any scale.   Posted: 10/18/2020 13:20:06
