Mossy Grotto by Todd Paige

June 2020 - Mossy Grotto

About the Image(s)

Here is my image for June titled "Mossy Grotto". We had a lot of rain a few weeks ago and many little streams where flowing and the forest floor was very rich and green.
This was shot on a tripod as a 4 Frame pano and then cropped down a bit to a square. 24mm, 0.5 sec, f/16, iso100 with polarizer and 3 stop nd filter.

The composition here is remarkable: all the picture elements come together in perfect harmony. The background shadows give way to a lighted channel at center, which leads the eye to the composition's ultimate goal, the rivulets flowing in the foreground.   Posted: 06/09/2020 15:20:04

Todd,
This is definitely a 5-star image to me. Last time, I criticized your editing was a bit too crispy to me. But, this image … is just perfectly done! At least to my taste. You partially sharpened and brings perfect hues, saturations and luminance to some of the key areas only. I think, you have successfully make the whole image more dimensional and stunning. You are one step ahead.
I have image collections in my hard drive. This bring me ideas for my editing reference. If you don't mind, I would steal this image shamelessly from you. This would definitely be one of my future editing reference. Excellent work Todd!

Thanks Frans! Sorry for the delayed response this month. I would be honored if you use my image as a reference! Also, you are right, I am very tempted by Pierrs's color image!   Posted: 06/22/2020 21:51:58

Remarkable composition; I see two strong diagonal X's as well as the vertical tree and waterfall making some kind of 6 pointed star type design. All the components seem symmetrical: centered and balanced and in harmony. The colors blend, nothing draws away or disrupts the flow. It has great depth and space to explore with no distractions. Well seen and developed!   Posted: 06/12/2020 17:45:32

A very well seen shot. The waterfalls and the surrounding verdant moss, ferns, and leaves offered a photo rich environment. I processed the image as follows: Brought out the patterns of rocks in the shade, cropped the top to reduce clutter (I think the main focus of the image is the waterfall), cleaned up the branches, and increased clarity of the waterfall. Hi San,
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
I'm way behind on everything this month so sorry for the delay. Of the changes you made I really like the increased detail in the foreground rocks and removing the branches is helpful as they seem a bit distracting.
Thanks, Todd   Posted: 06/22/2020 21:56:34
