About the Image(s)

Taken off Key West with 100-400 lens at 400: 1/500 f5.6 ISO 400. Edited in LR with a sky swap in Luminar 4. Am not sure what all the smudtz is on the clouds or from whence it came.

Hi Judy,
The sky swapping looks better than the original but, at least on my screen, the sailboats are blurry. Were you pointing at the sun (through the clouds). I agree that the clouds looked smudtzy. I would be inclined to drastically crop from top and bottom to enhance the sailboats.   Posted: 03/08/2020 08:39:32

I like this view better too! Thanks for the suggestion Pierre!   Posted: 03/09/2020 11:19:35

The cloud swap is a definite improvement to this idyllic image, contributing significantly to its mood! Rather than the cloud swap, I prefer Pierre's approach to feature the sailing vessels.   Posted: 03/09/2020 09:16:53

Me too! Thanks.   Posted: 03/09/2020 11:20:19

Hi Judy, great shot...I do agree with Pierre that cropping the top and bottom would help to show off the sailboats better. I also think I would crop out the two sailboats on the left and maybe the two on the left. Put a card up on each side of the picture and see what you think.   Posted: 03/13/2020 22:36:56

Hi Judy,

While others has given you general photography comments let me be more specific giving you comments in Sky Replacement.
I did a lot of Sky Replacement for my Travel Photos. I did it all in Photoshop. It is much easier to do Sky Replacement with Luminar 4, Although, the software is awfully slow as a Lightroom plug-in.
The trick of successful Sky Replacement is choosing suitable sky with appropriate light direction.
I think you have chosen suitable sky and light direction. My suggestion is to tweak the water color and match it with sky color. I think, it will look more natural to change the water color rather than to change the sky color. Nice efforts Judy.   Posted: 03/14/2020 23:31:51

Hi Judy,
I like the sky but I like the pano crop--maybe you could combine to two ideas. I'd love to see the energetic upper right portion of your sky behind the boats in the pano crop. You may even consider a photoshop motion blur of the sky.
