About the Image(s)

This photo was shot through smoke from wildfires in Glacier National Park. The color version is almost monochrome due to the thick smoke and I think converting it to Black and White worked well. Canon 5dm4, 24-70 lens at 31mm, ISO 100 f 8.0, 1/1000. I've included to color version for comparison.

Hi Todd. Wonderful lines leading to the water. Conversion to mono is a great move and you have a well seen foreground. Unless the viewer was told there was a fire the haze could have been mist or fog. A lovely image. Well done. Cheers Glenn   Posted: 09/09/2019 03:36:42

The notch in the opposing mountain ranges makes a natural focal point which is well used in the composition. I agree that the monochrome version is the better of the two. Your camera produces very little noticeable noise in the shadows. There is a noticeable darker line of demarcation at the tonal transition between the mountain and sky on the left side, but it is not particularly objectionable. Very nice work !   Posted: 09/09/2019 14:21:06

Hi Todd. Definitely, I like the B&W version. It's just awesome how you you graded the soft tone layers and compose it nicely in front of tree silhouette. My only suggestion, I might want to brightened part of the trees on the left corner for brighter foreground on the left. Nice work Todd.   Posted: 09/10/2019 00:03:03

I really like this in B/W. It creates such a dramatic mood. The lines in the mountains just bring you right in. No suggestions. Love it the way it is.   Posted: 09/12/2019 16:56:12

Very sharp definition behind the various mountains creates more of a separation and sense of depth. B&W conversion way to go. Diagonal line of the trail and the lake might be strengthened by cropping some off the bottom; so I tried a 16:9 pano crop. Nice story from flat top mountain to abruptly rising huge triangular shaped mountains. A distal person overlooking the view of the lake might have added a nice sense of scale but it's quite nice just as you have it.   Posted: 09/15/2019 12:46:19
