Tomaree Headland by Glen Gilligan, PPSA

October 2018 - Tomaree Headland

About the Image(s)

Camera- Nikon D7000, Lens- Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, F/ Stop- F/16, Exposure Time-- 40sec, ISO-100, Tripod used.

This image was taken from Tomaree Headland at Nelson Bay about 3 hours south of my home town. The Pacific Ocean is on the left. The climb up the headland is quite a mission but well worth the effort. There was a huge American presence here during World War 2. The sun had dropped below the horizon and I used a 40sec shutter speed to get some movement in the clouds and flatten the water. It is a peaceful holiday destination. I didn't do much post production apart from using the sliders in Adobe Camera Raw. Cheers Glenn

What a rewarding view after the climb! Very nice. Like the effect of your choice of slow shutter. Shows nice motion of the clouds but not too much.   Posted: 10/19/2018 06:02:40

Glen, my first comment to this image is WOOUW! I don't know if there is any better spot to take this picture. To me it's just perfect angle for the composition.

You mentioned ... I didn't do much post production apart from using the sliders in Adobe Camera Raw ...

Indeed, this was really apparent to me. If I were to do post processing (to this image) I would definitely increase it's dynamic range. Likely, with HDR in tone mapping from a single image for more punch and highlight some areas for more dramatic and dimensional.

However, I am still struggling with others opinions who prefer to have minimum adjustment during post production. Some said as natural as possible.

Any comments from others?   Posted: 10/24/2018 22:17:14

Spectacular vantage point! Plenty of variation in light and sky in whichever direction the eye goes. Great image.   Posted: 10/25/2018 07:20:07
