Elk Lake Sunrise by Dean Ginther

November 2020 - Elk Lake Sunrise

About the Image(s)

Attached is a pic I took last month on a cloudy fall day. The camera is looking to the west across Elk Lake as the sun is rising behind to the east. The camera was a Pentax K-1 with a 15-30mm lens at f8. 1/90, ISO 100 on a tripod.

Beautiful composition and gorgeous colors. You do have the horizon slightly off center but I think it would be more dramatic if you cut off a little from the bottom.
The clouds and reflection in the water on the left side provide the impact to this scene.   Posted: 11/12/2020 10:48:50

Dean, colours and reflections make the shot, I do agree with Mervyn that a little off the bottom and straightening the picture would make it just so much better, good on you, Geoff   Posted: 11/12/2020 17:39:23

Good early morning capture, Dean. No blown out highlights in the sky, good color palette. The reflection in the water adds interest. Cropping towards a panorama was a good choice.   Posted: 11/14/2020 12:47:54

Very omnious on the right and hope on the left. The mirror reflection adds to the drama. Bringing the horizon to the middle reinforces this mirror image and because of this this, I would not crop further.   Posted: 11/14/2020 17:57:32

I love the reflection. I also love how the left and right sides are so different in lighting. The only changes I see would be straightening the horizon. Besides that there is nothing I would change.   Posted: 11/16/2020 12:28:38
