About the Image(s)

For this month I have a flower photo again. I took the photo around noon on a partially cloudy day using an iPhone 6s. I used Lightroom to edit the photo. I decided to try out making it black and white which is something I’m not use too. I gave it a vignette first to get rid of most of the background. Then made it black and white. Finally I altered the contrast to increase it slightly.

Your photography is improving every month! Your eye really did well to se this black and white from the colorful capture. Personally, and this is just my personal taste, I'd like to see the flowers lightened up, which I think will make them ore delicate and pleasing. I think you are really coming into your own! Your best yet!   Posted: 09/03/2020 20:57:36

Thank you so much. I was trying to push myself because I am not use to black and white. I also made a color version of the flower in the Sam style but bnw seemed stronger   Posted: 09/16/2020 09:43:58

The black and white is much stronger than the color, in my opinion. Both would be better if lightened a little. Flowers look better appearing fragile and delicate. So proud of your improvements.   Posted: 09/20/2020 19:51:20

Your work just keeps on stepping up each month Jacob. The black and white was a good idea, although the colour version is appealing.   Posted: 09/06/2020 01:48:23

I think this is a good subject for conversion to b/w. I agree with Brenda that a bit more exposure would help.   Posted: 09/06/2020 08:40:20

Good job on the black and white conversion. Your technique improves every month. My only suggestion is to lighten the stamen area in the lower portion of the flower as that is where my eye wants to go first.   Posted: 09/07/2020 12:00:45

Yeah it did come out a bit dark. I just posted another version that I had in a different comment thread. Which was a color one which had a brighter lower region   Posted: 09/16/2020 09:56:59

Jacob, your work is improving every month. The black and white conversion was a good call. The viewer is asked to look at the lines and texture of the flowers instead of the color. The vignette isolated the flowers well. A bit of lightening of the flowers especially in the center of the lower one would probably be helpful. Really good job.   Posted: 09/07/2020 16:51:04
