July 2017 - Bison at Free Winds Farm

About the Image(s)

There is a bison farm an hour from us, so I photographed 48 calves with my new Canon lens this morning. I used NIK filters to bring out the texture of the bison coats. Too much?

You found a nice mother and baby image, Brenda. I think the work to bring out the texture in the fur works well. Your crop in the front is a little tight for me. Usually more room is needed to give the animal space to move.   Posted: 07/12/2017 13:49:43

I like the texture so not too much for my view. The whole calf is sharp not always easy with end on perspectives. I agree so more room would add to the picture and give a sense of ' what grass will I munch next'. nice work Bison are amazing critters.   Posted: 07/13/2017 11:25:01

Back views are usually not very flattering, but here you have captured a tender moment between the calf and its mother. I would also prefer a little more space in front as the mom looks very cramped. I think the fur texture is lovely.   Posted: 07/13/2017 13:02:18

Bison are often not particularly photogenic in my view but you caught a nice juxtaposition of mother and baby.   Posted: 07/20/2017 21:48:24

Great capture. I love the textures. Mom looks a little cramped in the frame but it is not always easy to guide these animals for a family portrait!
Love it.   Posted: 07/22/2017 11:17:03
