Florida Pool House by Charles Walker

About the Image(s)

This month’s submission is an image of a vacant pool house in Vero Beach Florida. I tried to capture the leisure spirit the architect intended; an invitation to bask in the sun, worry-free, to rest aside a lovely garden and pool. However, there are no people relishing this setting and no people enjoying each each other. The laughter and Margaritas are sadly missing. I tweaked the colors in Camera Raw to render Florida pastels after doing a color switch. Other than cropping, sharpening, and removing a chair, that is all that was done. Camera data: 18mm, f/11, 1/250, ISO=125

Greetings, Charles,
This is indeed a Florida pastel scene, and I find it very pleasing to the eye. Just a single person lounging on the chairs on the right would add to the composition, but like you said...not to be. I'd like to see the palm intruding on the left cropped or cloned out along with the shadow of it. Can we also have the whole chair and not see a clip of one leg? You may have a few random dust spots in the blue sky. Thanks for giving us a different IR treatment from our normal images.   Posted: 08/01/2020 11:05:22

Again Gary, your comments are making me a better photographer. I have already changed the large-file original in accord with your suggestions. It looks better.
Thank you.   Posted: 08/03/2020 21:52:53

Wonderful perspective for your pool scene, invites us to sit out and relax.Plenty of space for social distancing. I like the IR color rendering choice you chose.

You have the entire chair in your original so probably just an oversight in your editing that you cropped the back piece off.

You do a nice job of selective colorization, Charles, and I like the way the blue in the sky plays off the blue in the pool water. Good comments from the others about the cropping. Yes, it has a nice mood to it.   Posted: 08/02/2020 13:34:57

Hi Charles
You've portrayed the scene well and has done an equally amazing job of post processing. As Gary said, it has that pastel quality which I also like. Pity it lacks customers as its such an inviting set-up!   Posted: 08/03/2020 20:14:46
