About the Image(s)

This is one of first IR images I took after I received my converted camera. Workflow: performed a white balance on the raw image; I used Silver Efex, Removed the wooden fence in the foreground, and LR for tone touch up.

Shot with Canon 5D Mk II, 590nm at 50mm 1/50 sec f11, ISO 200, OEV.

Emil, for a first photo using IR, this is lovely. The texture is rich and tonality diverse. The dappled spots of light add and another layer of texture. If the antique truck is the dominate subject of this image, it competes somewhat with the big shed. There is a natural complementary between IR and abandoned structures and vehicles. Reminds me of the wabi sabi tradition in Japanese art.   Posted: 12/05/2019 11:30:03

Charles, You make a very interesting point about the large shed and the subject truck competing for attention. I will keep that input in my composition file.

Hi Emil,

I really like this for the story it tells and the treatment in IR. The shadows created by the sun coming through the trees makes a very interesting dappling on the white grasses. About the bright shed and competition with the truck...I applied NIK Darken/Lighten Center and got the attached option. I also used Viveza to lighten the rear tires of the truck. See what you think. It's a strong image in my mind.   Posted: 12/06/2019 12:59:02

Just lovely, Emil, my kind of scene! What makes this for me are the clouds. I've always liked the way a wide angle lens makes cloud lines diverge, the effect makes an image more dynamic. I can just feel the movement of the clouds here. The rest of the scene just falls into place. Once again, I'm partial to your softer style, works for me, though I can appreciate Gary's edit also.   Posted: 12/10/2019 14:52:14

Great IR capture Emil. A scene that one can take over and over again. the sky is gorgeous and make it a compelling image. I do feel that it lacks contrast. Darken/lighten in Nik would be great. The barn does need to be darkened and I would darken the cab of the truck too.   Posted: 12/15/2019 12:13:51

Hi Emil, great texture and contrast in the image. I feel like the sky and clouds are moving while the rest of the image is standing still. Tend to agree with the feedback that the larger shed to the left of the image competes with the truck. Gary's version addresses it nicely while leaving the focus on the truck. Overall a strong image. Cheers!   Posted: 12/19/2019 09:10:10
