Oak Tree by Jack Florence Jr

October 2019 - Oak Tree

About the Image(s)

It was the little weed heads in the foreground that attracted me to this image, being unimpressive in reality, but in IR they take on the look of wildflowers, adding a bit of whimsey. The log probably has to be cloned out?

Yes Jack, the weed heads certainly add another dimension to the foreground. Detail all around spot on. I think the dark area towards the left corner also helps. I'd perhaps clone out the tiny cloud on the right instead of the log! Nicely rendered, nonetheless.

Hi Jack,

I tried some options...but I doubt you'd like them. In my humble opinion, this just is a tough scene to photograph in a dramatic and effective way. There's simply too much merge between the tree and the complicated clouds in the sky for me. The composition as a result is confusing to my eye.   Posted: 10/07/2019 07:16:06

Thanks Gary, I hadn't considered that, but I get your point. It might have worked better with the tree against a clear sky.   Posted: 10/07/2019 09:52:26

Hi Jack,
I do like the scene and there certainly is whimsy. But the very dramatic sky takes away from it. I would love to see this again with more wispy clouds. Ha! If only we could plan nature.   Posted: 10/07/2019 10:51:55

Jack,

I love the foreground, IR has such a great affect on grasses and weeds that become flower like, the tree is perfect but then I wish the sky was all black so my eye stays on foreground and tree but you take what nature deals you when you are out shooting. The clouds are simply wonderful BTW.
