About the Image(s)

This is a photo of a bridge at Buffalo’s largest cemetery, Forest Lawn. Like many others, I have found cemeteries to be fruitful places to take IR photographs. This photo was taken early in June, later in the afternoon. Again, this time when processing, following Russell Hart’s advice, I did not use color channel mixing, but instead used the color selection menu and a color adjustment layer. I did a bit of color replacement too, especially on the tombstones to render them more gray than blue. Topaz Sharpen AI was used to sharpen trees in the foreground. Camera data: Nikon D7000, 590nm filter, f/20, 1/100th, 26mm lens, ISO=126.

I'm sure we've all heard the "looks like snow" comment when others view our IR images of trees, and this one even more so, due to the blue sky; very nice. I didn't realize it was a cemetery until I read your text. But the river and the bridge still make for a very pleasing image. I think from your vantage point, a bit more "reach" (telephoto) might have made another image with the background cemetery more prominent, with foreground river and bridge.   Posted: 10/06/2019 13:46:38

Everything is going for this lovely landscape, Charles. Post processing spot on. Tree shadow on the right has given an added dimension. Beautifully captured and rendered. Well done!   Posted: 10/07/2019 00:04:22

Hi for me! Very nice rendering in color IR, splendid composition and effective exposure and appropriate contrast. Well done! (P.S. All I would say about the subject scene is that, to my eye, the fact that it's a cemetery is inconsequential and obscure due to the size of the stones and their distance from the camera.)   Posted: 10/07/2019 07:17:14

Lovely, tranquil scene. Your perspective is just right and the select color works really well. I am really enjoying this.   Posted: 10/07/2019 10:55:37

I like your selection from Forest Lawn. The composition works well with the stream leading you into the bridge flanked by trees. The IR color rendering is spot on. I like the blue sky against the trees. Even though this is a cemetery it is in the background which works for me. I am glad to see you take on the color processing.
