About the Image(s)

The first image taken with my newly converted Sony A 7 II. I think I am really going to enjoy IR even more now. Taken before I worked the white balance, thus the very red image. I now have the capability of doing color. We will see what that brings!
This is the view from my back gate overlooking a pond on the golf course. Taken in the late afternoon with lots of elements - light shadow, water, a little cloud and foliage. I have always enjoyed this tree and I’m pleased with this capture. I am not sure the cilium tone will appeal, but I do like it here. Chanel swapping produced a very blue image, which I toned done in hue and saturation Also lightened the reflection area, Levels was used to add more light. I also played around with contrast. I did remove the man-made objects.
Sony A7 A II , ISO200 {Auto ISO} F 11, 35mm

Using actions downloaded from Life Pixel, I have created a color version. I eagerly await the opinions of all you experts as to how I can make this a whole lot better.   Posted: 09/01/2019 12:52:54

Welcome to color! I can see you are already having some fun. Although unnatural and a bit surreal, the colorized version of your photo is a lot more interesting. The contrast of the cyan saturated sky with the sepia toned tree is pleasing. For more tinkering, I urge you to try using the select color menu and a color adjustment layer to fine tune the image. Color channel switching is just the beginning!   Posted: 09/03/2019 07:58:55

Thanks for your valuable comments. The image is very different on my monitor. I usually adjust with curves before submitting and in my excitement at having produce a color IR, I forgot. I think think this one is better.   Posted: 09/04/2019 17:12:23

I like the first colorized IR image. The lighter tones contrast nicely with the saturated cyans. Keep tinkering. Share your insights.   Posted: 09/09/2019 10:35:32

Both of your images are beautiful but i think I prefer the B&W version.   Posted: 09/05/2019 15:38:17

I think the cyanotype is fun, as we don't see it that often. I'll have to leave it to others for tips on how to make those beautiful color images. Compositionally, its the little line of white grass tips coming up from the bottom, and also the shadow of the tree, that makes this for me. I might have played around with a closer crop, to accentuate those areas more. The tree itself feels a little hot in this one, and I like the way it renders in the other versions better.   Posted: 09/07/2019 09:33:57

Hi Melanie
Color IR has always been fascinating for me, but feel I'm quite novice to pass any judgement! Having said that, congratulations for venturing out into this new area, which I can see you're already enjoying.
Now to the image itself. I like the way you've composed ... with that tiny reflection by the edge to balance. From my perspective it draws the eye back into the scene as there is so much more to explore. Weighing all the pros and cons, I like the third image because of its softness.   Posted: 09/08/2019 00:06:06

Hi Melanie,

I prefer your FIRST color IR rendition, as, to my eye, it contains more contrast and saturation of color. Color IR is a world unto itself as we are all saying. I remember Ektachrome IR back in the film days...some wild scenes resulted from this film! I personally think it has its place and is novel.   Posted: 09/08/2019 10:03:19

My vote is for your second color image. I like the tones much better. Consider removing the white grass in the water is my only CC.
