About the Image(s)

Named for the little leaning house at left which was to keep the kitchen from getting the rest of the house too hot, this was a fun scene to shoot, my main challenge being, how wide or how close in to get. I have versions close in on the houses, and versions wider with more sky (which wasn’t all that interesting beyond this). I have with and without the darker patches in the foreground. So, thoughts on the crop appreciated! 35mm prime.

Hi Jack
You've done a great job in creating this scene. Composition spot on!
I wondered if you'd consider the alternative version whereby I've given the image some extra contrast and a bit more tome in the middle highlight area! Posted: 08/05/2019 02:46:02

Jack, the original image is grand, but being a high contrast hound, I like Palli's adjustment. I am curious about the similarity between the colors in the original and the finished image. Was an IR filter equal to or greater than 720nm installed in your camera?   Posted: 08/08/2019 21:40:28

Thanks Charles yes I think my conversion was the 850nm, ie, strong black and white.   Posted: 08/08/2019 22:16:57

Thanks Pali yes I agree your version improves. Despite having added quite a bit of contrast myself, I notice the center still looks pale, and in need of a bit more contrast.   Posted: 08/08/2019 22:18:31

Lovely scene Jack,
This is a great capture.
So interesting that there are a few old structures this month. Like you, I also struggled with the choice of distance and what to include. I think you made a great choice here. I enjoy the plowed fields surrounding the houses. Your style is to use more muted tones. I think here, a little contrast is needed so that the sky and structure are not in the same tonal range, but my eye says only a little.   Posted: 08/11/2019 16:33:07
