About the Image(s)

This is a photograph of the inlet of Quaker Lake in Allegany State Park. It was taken late afternoon in July of 2018. Other than to crop it into more of a landscape format, move the red color slider to increase contrast, and apply Topaz AI Noise for noise reduction in shadow areas, not much else was done in post processing. Camera data: Nikon 7000 (Life Pixel IR transform), ISO=400, f/14, 1/500th, 36mm lens setting handheld.

Charles,

What a great time and place for IR. The only thing I'd like to see is a little more level horizon. See the adjusted version I've attached. Great leading lines and composition, aided by an IR sky and a compelling, tranquil mood.   Posted: 08/02/2019 10:28:00

A great landscape, Charles. Everything is going for this image. Lucky to have such a fabulous day for IR photography!
In this instance however, I'm with Gary for the suggested crop.   Posted: 08/06/2019 01:39:15

Thank you Palli and Gary for the supportive comments. This wet-behind-the-ears IR photographer needs them. With complex images and natural vertical lines defined by trees, I have trouble locating the horizon. Before submitting this image I performed a crop similar to yours, but you leveled it a notch for the better. I did not like the cloud in the upper right hand corner, but let it be.   Posted: 08/06/2019 17:43:01

Hi Chuck,
Lovely inviting scene. Horizon line aside, it is all working.
Your lead in log echos the ridge line, and that is marvelous. The sky is IR great. If you had the tripod with you, would you have tried a long exposure to smooth out the water? Just a thought. I'm not sure whether that would have been good for the sky though. I like the tones of your conversion   Posted: 08/11/2019 16:41:24

Classic composition Charles with the curve of the river leading in to the slant of the mountains and that beautiful sky. I agree with you about that one cloud, I scratched my head about that too, but it's probably ok either way. Very nice image.   Posted: 08/16/2019 15:48:14

Charles,

Nice landscape comp. I like the tonal range, the interesting clouds in the sky and the leading line of the inlet coupled with the fallen tree un the foreground. You know you have a keeper when the processing job is small   Posted: 08/19/2019 10:14:10
