About the Image(s)

Camera: Nikon D300 converted to Deep BW IR by LifePixel
Tech: 1/45th second, f11, ISO 400, hand held at 18mm (27mm equivalent full frame)

My intent for this image was to portray a tropical, warm scene. IR added the ethereal effect, aided by NIK Color Efex Pro with Detail Extractor and Vignette Blur. Then Topaz BW was chosen as the 'colorizer' of sorts to pick up a chocolate brown for the warmth aspect. Different from what I normally do, which is why I chose it for this month from a recent trip to Costa Rica.

Hi Gary,
Costa Rica is certainly on my bucket list.....one day.
A very appealing scene indeed. The figure give perspective and the angle you have chosen shows this off beautifully. It has the feeling of an old photo which is in keeping. I don't often show my own version of other images but would like to hear what you think. I took down the brightness a little as I feel you lost too much in the conversion. I know you were looking for chocolate brown, but I liked it a little de saturated.

Hi Gary
To me that figure has added interest. Your composition just as strong.
I think Melanie's version has a slight edge over yours!!   Posted: 03/04/2019 22:45:12

Quite the interesting change of pace for you, Gary! I like the high key feel, and of course palm trees are a great subject for infrared. I liked the idea of a white vignette at first, but when it intersects with the trees on the right edge, that doesn't work so much for me anymore. I might finesse that, as edge adjustments need not always be applied uniformly. Overall, very well done.   Posted: 03/10/2019 16:30:15

Gary, I think you accomplished what you intended. Melanie's adjustments give it aninteresting 1950s feel. I like how you darkened the sky in the middle behind the palms, which attracted the eye to the middle of the composition   Posted: 03/17/2019 14:59:00

Hi Gary, funny how I have been to Costa Rica but never to a resort like this one, very nice. Like the composition and use of the false colour to achieve the warm tropical effect. The part of the image that caught my attention was the interplay of the palm shadows on the ground, go figure. Cheers!
