About the Image(s)

This photo was taken late last summer a couple hours before sunset on partially cloudy day. I used my converted Nikon D7000 with settings at f14, 1/160 sec., ISO 200 with the lens at 18mm. I did a simple color swap, then worked on cleaning-up the whites and cropping out the heavy ugly pines on the left of the image. While the blues in the image make and break this photo. The blues in the upper left seem too dense and there are blue halos I do not like on the bare branches of the large tree.

Hi Chuck,
Another beautiful scene. The composition is perfect. The balance of the foreground bushes is set off by the tall tree. Reflections add balance. Crop is great. I do feel that the blues are too saturated. I de-saturated them a little and am look forward to hearing what you think.   Posted: 03/03/2019 12:46:30

Greetings Charles...

I liked it the moment I first saw it and still do...in my view, you're a bit harsh on yourself about the haloing and the darkness of the sky upper left. Works for me as is. Love the leading lines from foreground to bridge to tree.   Posted: 03/05/2019 09:55:46

Welcome, Charles.
People often comment that infrared makes images with trees look like snow scenes; this image epitomizes that. You've created a lovely winter scene. I agree with Melanie that the blues are a bit much, and think her version improves it.   Posted: 03/10/2019 16:26:25

Melanie & Jack, the blues look better desaturated a bit. And many thanks again for encouraging this novice IR photographer.

I may be a slow responding and commenting. I will be in South Africa (Melanie's home country) for several days. But when the WiFi is strong enough, I will pitch in.   Posted: 03/11/2019 11:35:36

Charles

I like the composition very much, my eyes start on the left, go across the bridge to the tree on the right.

False color is the most challenging IR rendering in my view due to factors such as sun angle. The sky in the upper corners of your image are different hues probably due to the setting sun being on the right and will stay that way as seen by Melanie's rendition. It is the artist choice how to proceed. Sometime I decide to go to BW and try another image to render in false color.

Charles, thanks for sharing this image. It has great composition and flow. I am not a false colour fan, and I like Melanie's rendition toning down the saturation. Have you tried turning the image to B&W? Cheers!
