Yellow Rose by Diana Duffey

March 2023 - Yellow Rose

About the Image(s)

Took this photo next to the kitchen window. Used my Sony a7R4 on a tripod with the 90mm macro.
My camera setting were: ISO 800, F16, SS 1/10. I tried to increase the exposure of the background in
Lightroom. In Photoshop, I removed some blemishes and did a levels adjustment.
I am having trouble with my computer so I did not attempt to add a texture to my image at this time.

Hi Diana,
The rose is gorgeous and well presented. If it were mine I would attempt to angle it so that the stem comes more from a side rather than the middle. I am sorry you are having computer problems as a background texture would make it even more lovely.   Posted: 03/09/2023 15:56:26

Melanie, thank you for your suggestion. I will angle the rose in my Lightroom image. Melanie, I think I resolved my computer issues. I moved all my files to a new external drive, but was not successful the first time. They are all on the new external drive now!   Posted: 03/09/2023 16:23:00

So glad to see your rose here. We have missed you! The rose is beautifully executed. I agree, a soft texture, as you usually do, would make it more dreamy. The white appears a bit stark.   Posted: 03/09/2023 19:25:18

Hi Diana, you have a beautiful rose. I agree with Melanie about having the rose on an angle and not straight up from the middle. I like to have my stems like this coming up from the left. This makes a better composition. We tend to read an image from left to right. With the stem on the left, it provides a nice path to bring the eye into the image and up to, in this case, the rose. I would like to see a different background. The white is too bright for my eye and distracts from the rose. The eye always goes to the brightest area in an image. I feel you did a great job with the detail and the capture of the rose. Love the colors of the rose.   Posted: 03/10/2023 12:48:52

Hi Diana,

Your rose image is so lovely! I am mesmerized by its details and colorations. I agree with Dick, Fran and Melanie. Had your computer been behaving itself, a textured background would've further enhanced its beauty. Nicely done:)   Posted: 03/10/2023 15:05:15

Hi Diana, your Rose is gorgeous, love the colours and the details in the petals. If I can suggest something I would extend the background as I find it a little to tide creating the feeling of a Rose in a cage and as the other members suggested the white background is taking to much attention, you might change the colour or place a texture.   Posted: 03/15/2023 07:27:21

I have nothing to add to the previous comments. Except, truly beautiful capture.   Posted: 03/25/2023 21:27:42
