Milkweed by Jeff Fleisher

April 2021 - Milkweed

About the Image(s)

I took this particular image of the milkweed because it reminded me of a bird's beak holding a collection of the fine filaments. It was a fairly overcast but breezy day so I increased the ISO so I could shoot at a higher shutter speed. The camera parameters are: ISO 800, f/11, speed 1/1600 sec with my Nikon d7200 camera using a Nikon 200 mm Micro lens.

I did not do very much processing on this image in On1 Photo Raw. I brightened up the highlights a little and increased the overall sharpness and finally added a very subtle vignette.

I like it! It does look like a bird's beak with fine filaments. The color scheme and background work well with the image and the vignette adds to effect. The only comment I have is that the end tips of the milkweed seem a bit soft. Overall I find this a really pleasant and fun image.   Posted: 04/06/2021 16:57:35

Very nice! I am really impressed by the degree of detail and DOF for this 3 dimensional structure. To nitpick, I might have liked just a slightly larger margin on the left - feels as if the tips of the filaments have been cut off.   Posted: 04/07/2021 12:43:51
