Bloom by Charles Ginsburgh

November 2019 - Bloom

About the Image(s)

It’s late fall and the gardens still seem to have blooms (I live in the SF bay area with it’s moderate climate), so out I went to capture some of these blooms in all of their beauty.

I chose this bloom for its beauty, location on the bush (not at the end of a long branch), and for the inherent light. Here I used my trusty Canon 5d mark IV with a 100 mm f/2.8 macro lens and my tripod. This was taken as a stack of 19 images (f/8, 1/50 sec, ISO 400). In this case the shot was taken “in the field” at 7 AM to avoid any breeze (which always seems to come up later in the morning). I did add a slight texture to the background to aid in the overall look to the image

Very nice! The detail in the image is so well represented. I like what appears to be the water droplets on the bottom leaf, and the fuzzy hairs on the right side coming out from behind the petal. The lighting is perfect for the effect. Well done.   Posted: 11/17/2019 10:32:10

Fantastic detail and clarity Charlie. Very nice indeed.
Still amazed that you are able to images like this out in nature. Reminds me somewhat of SEM photos. My only criticism, and it may be due to the chilly weather we're having here in SE Georgia, is that the image looks somewhat cold. I'm wondering if it might benefit from warming the color balance or the background.   Posted: 11/18/2019 11:01:59
