Soap bubble by Angela Chan

October 2019 - Soap bubble

About the Image(s)

I had been very lucky to attend another macro workshop yesterday. Unfortunately my macro lens was acting up on me so this was taken with Sony A 6000 (f/9, Iso 800).

We used a straw to blow air into a cup that contain 30% glycerin until a big bubble rise to the top. Since the bubble is round the plane of focus is very thin. The liquid used was clear and colorless. It is a wonder how the soap film interact with light to make such colorful reflections.
I learnt of a set up to get soap film in a wire frame made of cloth hanger ..shall be my next project .

This is beautiful Angela. The colors and patterns are lovely. When I first looked at it I thought you had taken a microscope image of a colorful histological section. I think it looks great as is but one minor suggestion would be to crop out a portion of the blurred section on the right side?   Posted: 10/22/2019 09:58:58

Thank you very much for the suggestion, Oscar.
This was not taken with a macro lens on a curve surface so I do not have much area in focus to work with.
Shall try to make flat film and use my macro lens next time.

What a wonderfully colorful image. Good job ! I am loving the colors and clarity of what you have given us. However, since one of the strong point here is the clarity of the image I do find the blurred area distracting and agree with Oscar it trying to remove or remedy this area.   Posted: 10/28/2019 16:41:01
