About the Image(s)

I was shopping at a local “farmers market” and came across these interesting vegetables (in green). I don’t know what they were called, of even how best to cook them but they were so interestingly shaped that I thought it might be fun to shoot them..

I set this shot up in my extensive studio (living room on the living room table). This images was taken with my Canon 7d Mark II camera using a 100 mm Macro lens (f/14, ½ second, ISO 400). The camera was tripod mounted (allowing the longer exposure), and the vegetables were placed on a piece of black glass. Ambient light from the front window (at 11:00 AM) was used.

The image was processed in Photoshop where I removed dust spots, darkened the background and added a bit of micro-contrast and sharpening. Not of lot of processing was required with this image.

Charles, this image is interesting to me. It has an HDR quality, yet it isn't HDR. The colors are deep and rich and your depth of field is really nice. It feels like if I touch the image I'll feel the textures. If I were to change anything, I might change the direction of the strawberry in the front. But that's nitpicking. The image is great - well done!   Posted: 07/02/2017 18:04:59

Very, very nice still-life. Indeed, the green ones look strange. I would cook them 20 minutes in salted water, then fry them on butter :)
Maybe, I would decrease somewhat the contrast, especially in case of the tomatos   Posted: 07/08/2017 00:34:09

Another "oooohhhhhhh" shot. The bumpiness of those green things and the strawberries against the satiny smoothness of the tomatoes is a nice study in variations of texture. I think you did a great job arranging the items. I find that one task to be difficult oftentimes. I am very impressed that you are able to capture the reflection without the double images that I continue to struggle with.

If I had to suggest any change, it would be to warm up the image slightly to reduce the blue cast in the highlights, but that is very subjective and a matter of personal taste. I just happen to like things warmer (maybe it is these 100 plus degree days we are getting here in Northern California)!   Posted: 07/18/2017 16:57:30
