Ice House on a Foggy Morning by Jerry Snyder

April 2021 - Ice House on a Foggy Morning

About the Image(s)

The image was taken on a mild late-fall morning in Valley Forge Park. This area typically has fog settling in the shallow valley but this morning the fog was heavier than usual and provided great atmosphere. The fall colors of the ground cover were striking so I was not sure how the scene would translate to monochrome. I settled on a scene cropped tightly around the ice house. The exposure settings were f/8, 1/60 sec., and ISO 160 hand held at 32 mm. A copy of the original color image is also attached.

A great moody feel with the layers of fog.   Posted: 04/05/2021 18:15:20

At one time, I lived in King of Prussia and drove through Valley Forge park to work. Enjoyed those morning drives particularly. This ended 52 years ago when I moved back to MN. Lovely place and you captured it with the fog. Normally we want a "true black" and a white tone in a mono, but not when you want to show fog. You did this well. I enjoyed seeing it very much.   Posted: 04/06/2021 13:47:04

I think this was well spotted and your processing was even better. Super!

I think a letterbox version in mono would also be interesting.   Posted: 04/09/2021 01:45:30

I like the mood and the composition as is. In my make believe world, I see a cozy cottage instead of an ice house.   Posted: 04/19/2021 00:06:03

Both the color original and your Monochrome conversion speak excellent story and feeling for the foggy scene. Your depth of field and focus along with composition in the Monochrome image provides me a tightly presented close encounter with the scene as if I have walked closer to try to see through the fog. Nicely done.   Posted: 04/19/2021 06:56:44
