Armor Meats Plant by Don York

February 2021 - Armor Meats Plant

About the Image(s)

Image was taken in the old Armor Meats Plant in East St Louis. It is now completely demolished. One had to climb very carefully over lots of old machinery and parts laying around to find a picture. I didn't have a flash or tripod, so my exposure was handheld at 1/30 sec, f 3.2 at ISO 500.

I like the shapes, textures, and composition. Well captured at those settings, hand held! The darkness and high contrast add to the grungy look. Glad they were no longer processing meat by the time you took this.   Posted: 02/03/2021 16:38:26

The grunge treatment of the scene paints a clear picture of the factory's condition when the photographs was taken. It makes me think twice about eating ground beef or hotdogs!   Posted: 02/06/2021 11:02:20

A great shot in those conditions. In this country I suspect it would have been locked and the public banned! Super industrial archaeology.   Posted: 02/09/2021 17:07:58

Very interesting capture of industrial processing. Grunge is certainly an appropriate effect, but I would like, the shadows opened a little. Thanks for sharing this image and letting us see it through your eyes.   Posted: 02/15/2021 08:54:54

Grunge is right for this image, and I think it is inherently a monochrome, in fact a black and white monochrome. I also like your rather extreme contrast and a lot of near black tones. You have good tonal separation between picture elements. There are a few areas where you might want to recover a small amount of detail in some of the true black areas.   Posted: 02/19/2021 20:37:12
