About the Image(s)
My monochrome image for December is attached. It is titled Sandpiper Concentrating. It was taken on a spring day at a National Wildlife Refuge on the New Jersey Shore. The sandpiper was wading and probing the sand for food. The exposure settings were F/5.6, ISO 400, 1/4000 sec at 400 mm. This is one image in a sequence, and this one is my favorite because of the position of the bird’s beak above the water. The image was cropped to remove distracting elements and tonal adjustments were made in Lightroom.

A beautiful simple image with the focus enhanced by the ripple in the water. *****   Posted: 12/07/2020 12:45:28

Caught at just the right moment. The birds beak appears to be perfectly vertical resulting in the reflection and the beak making a perfectly straight vertical line. It is always hard to know how to crop images like this. I like that you left a significant amount of space both above and to the right. The small ripples on the water made that space very pleasing.   Posted: 12/10/2020 10:10:23

Jerry, this image is delightful in every way. I have no suggestions. The timing is perfect as is the depth of field and focus. The textures and tone help to tell the story and give a glimpse in time of a bird feeding a the seas shore. I like your final results very much.   Posted: 12/15/2020 13:42:09

Great position of the bird in the frame and reflection in water. I might crop a bit off the top since the upper portion is quite bright.   Posted: 12/16/2020 10:25:26

Well done, Jerry. The detailed plumage plays off the soft ripples. I like very vertical position of his beak, with the reflection creating an interesting "negative space."   Posted: 12/22/2020 18:06:45
