ABOUT THE IMAGE: When I created a mirror image of my October submission, I saw that it had more potential.

Nice abstract. I didn't make the connection with your entry last month until I read your description. I like the subject also.   Posted: 11/06/2020 07:00:53

Glad you got it and like it, Jerry.

It took me a few looks to realise this has been made from the steps in your October photo. Nice abstract pattern, but I don't understand the words or the need for some - are they relevent to the photo?   Posted: 11/09/2020 13:04:18

Sorry you didn't get it. The graphic represents the collars Ruth Bader Ginsberg always wore over her judicial robes, and the text consists of famous phrases of hers.   Posted: 11/11/2020 13:08:26

I guess being American increases one's chances of recognising it! No problem, I'm the odd one out here. My daughter has a degree in Design and comes up with posters and this reminds me of some of her work. I'm sure the style could be used in many contexts.   Posted: 11/11/2020 13:55:29

You're right: it is culturally American. I suspect it might fare better in a group of women, even Brits. Would your daughter understand it? The phrase in larger font, which RBG dictated to her niece shortly before dying, is, "It is my most fervent wish that I will not be replaced until a new President is installed."   Posted: 11/11/2020 14:17:31

I doubt it, she's heavily into doing her PhD at the moment, no time for outside interests!
I've just Googled this lady and have read a bit about her. Not someone to be crossed! I wonder which candidate she was hoping would succeed as President. Alas I see she passed in September, so she didn't get that wish.   Posted: 11/11/2020 14:48:34

Biden. RBG was a liberal voice on the Supreme Ct. Traditionally with the election so soon, this would have waited for the new President. However within a week of RBG's death, Trump appointed a very young, ultra conservative woman. She was sworn in b/4 the election., making it 6 to 3, conservative justices. These are lifetime appointments, so she will change the tenor of the Ct for decades to come.   Posted: 11/11/2020 17:34:57

Words make the image too complex.   Posted: 11/09/2020 13:12:05

It is a nice graphic presentation. However, it doesn't work for me. Perhaps if there were fewer words and phrases which might not be directly related to each other and the message be focused with one specific poignant word or phrase as a story, it might resonate more for me.   Posted: 11/11/2020 09:27:31

To me they relate. They are all comments by Ruth Bader Ginsberg, at least one in Supreme Court decisions. Apparently they and her iconic collars aren't familiar to everybody.   Posted: 11/11/2020 13:19:34

You saw the potential to make your work into another creation and it worked very well. I need to have my daughter come to the site. She is a big RBG fan. She will enjoy it, but she won't be able to comment.   Posted: 11/18/2020 11:11:29

Thank you, Stan. I'd love to know what your daughter says, a woman's opinion. We will have a female judge at our club tomorrow. I'll see whether it resonates with her.   Posted: 11/18/2020 22:34:51

I am not sure what three judges will make of this. If just one makes a decision in a short time that it is not what he is looking for, it probably will not do all that well. It is pretty out of the mainstream of what they expect. There are things in our photography that we really enjoy and we like to share, but that doesn't mean the judges will like it. I wish you well, let me know how it does. I hope it does well.   Posted: 11/19/2020 18:09:07

Well, it was a single judge, a woman, and a Creative competition, so I had high hopes. But you were right, it got nada. Consolation, tho, b/c my other image got Creative of the month.   Posted: 11/19/2020 23:28:44

Helen, congratulations, you are obviously doing some very creative things. You need to expect some variability in the acceptance of these type of images. I notice in judging them that the judges scores can vary significantly. Not everyone buys into the same compositions.   Posted: 11/23/2020 16:24:08
