About the Image(s)

Taken this image last March at Kaziranga National Park. It was late afternoon and this Elephant Herd is crossing across a water body. This young calf seems to be most confident of the lot and I highlighted the calf as the main subject of my image. As there was beautiful rim light around the calf, I find it best to process the image in monochrome.

Camera was Nikon D750 with Tamron SP 150-600mm G2 lens. Settings were f/6.3, 1/2500sec, ISO:1600, FL:600mm and Hand Held. Processing is in LR Classic CC.

The rimlight and hair really make this image special. Nicely done.   Posted: 10/08/2019 11:15:03

I like the lighting and sense of motion. Perhaps you can add to the lighting effect by selectively brightening the hair on top of the elephants in the middle?   Posted: 10/09/2019 17:24:15

The rim light was very effective on the hairs, with good sharpness throughout..   Posted: 10/11/2019 15:13:01

Ahbijeet, well done. I like your presentation and feel you enhanced well as you described the calf. I like this a lot.   Posted: 10/13/2019 12:26:18

I love the waterlines on their bodies and their glistening wet hides! There are many many photos of elephants around, but this one has that little difference (plus the nice rim light) that makes it a step above most.

Compositionally some might criticise the even number of animals, but I won't as losing the left one would spoil it. However I do regret the loss of the very top of the back of the elephant on the right.   Posted: 10/15/2019 06:34:37

I think the composition of the image is excellent. Somehow it seems perfectly clear that the baby elephant is the center of attention. I think the haloing of backlight helps make this clear. The center of interest is centered in the frame, but that is no problem in this image. It is good that some elephant is blocking the sky at the top, and the elephant on the right is given some space to move into. Exposure of the elephants seems right on.   Posted: 10/17/2019 00:06:37
