Nice subject. Handheld at 1/60th may not have been quite enough. A higher iso would have allowed both a higher
shutter speed and f stop.   Posted: 11/05/2020 18:17:06

Hi Lou,
Great composition. My eye is immediately drawn to your subject. I like the contrasting colors.

Hi Lou: A good subject with the Milkweed Beetles and the Milkweed seedhead. Picture is well composed with correct exposure with the Milkweed Beetles as the center of interest due to the bright colors. Overall the picture is not sharp and has a lot of digital noise, this is especially evident in the green area in the upper left corner. I also have the 24-70 zoom lens you used for this image and it is a great lens. It will not focus in this close without other attachments. If you have cropped in a lot to enlarge the image then noise usually will become a factor.
Do agree with Neal that shooting handheld at 1/60 sec. is difficult to accomplish, best to use a tripod in this situation.   Posted: 11/07/2020 09:11:47

LOU,
I THINK THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS ARE ENOUGH SAID.

WHAT COULD BE DONE TO IMPROVE??
I KNOW THE EQUIPMENT YOUR USING IS EXCELLENT, MY FRIEND USES THE SAME COMBO..
INSTEAD OF CROPING IN POST NOW ABOUT SHOOTIN THIS AT 70MM THAT WOULD HELP YOU IN NOT CROPING SO MUCH AS MENTIONED THAT CREATES NOISE.
AND AS A MENTOR OF MINE REMINDS ME ALL THE TIME OUR EYE GOES TO WHITE AND BRIGHT THUS I DON'T REALLY SEE THE BETTLES, SO LESS WHITE AND TONED DOWN WOULD GREDATLY HELP..AND OF COURSE SPEED COUNTS!

Hi Lou,
Good choice of subject matter. I like the orange of the beetles combined with the white of the milkweed. With a little tighter crop in camera you could have avoided the post processing crop that caused some noise. The viewer never knows the conditions the photographer is working with so not to pass judgement.   Posted: 11/26/2020 13:58:16
