Rhododendron Bud by Barbara Asacker

October 2020 - Rhododendron Bud

About the Image(s)

Nikon D500;
Macro 90mm lens
f/5.6

ISO 320

This is a bud on my rhododendron bush which suddenly starting sprouting buds and blooming flowers again this year.
It is highly unusual as it normally blooms once in the spring and is dormant until next year.
I handheld my camera and shot this image outside in a partial shady area.
The image was processed in Adobe Camera Raw, cropped, and sharpened.
I also applied a texture to the image.

Hi Barbara: A very well thought out image the way you have presented it. Attractive composition with the bud at the bottom right 1/3 power point area. Fine example of selective focus with the out of focus leaves which form a nice base; then your post processing works very well with your adding texture as it adds a lot of interest to your Rhody bud. Wonderful soft lighting fits this subject very well. Nice work!!   Posted: 10/08/2020 01:12:28

Love rhodos, unfortunately so do the deer. Ditto Murphy's comments. Delightfully warm!   Posted: 10/16/2020 12:28:00

Hi Barbara, Nice image and a nice use of a texture. The bud is in focus and the balance of the image has a dreamy, soft look to it which, to me, is appealing. I like the complementary colors and the composition. In particular the bud which is nicely supported by leaves both top and bottom. Good work.   Posted: 10/19/2020 12:17:42
