Dice by Karen Warkany

July 2017 - Dice

About the Image(s)

I played some more with Helicon Focus Stack and the CamRanger this month. Attached is an image taken of dice through a glass globe. I used the CamRanger to take 12 shots of the dice focusing on several different areas. I think I needed more light on the front of the image to light up the face of the top right dice. Also, while I was using a diffuser the light hitting the glass caused the top to be a bit overblown.

The settings for the image were ISO 400, F8, 1/15sec.

I love the concept, the colors and shapes work well inside the globe, very unique. Sounds like it was well thought out, from the diffuser to the camranger (mine is still in its box).

personally, I find the blue thick keystroke distracting, as it takes your eye from the dice,

to take care of the distortion and overexposure at the top of the globe, make a layer copy, turn the layer upside down (edit transform) and mask the bottom (now on top) back in.

Hi Karen: Interesting idea; the white dish you placed the dice in blends well with your choice of background. Do not think the lettering on the blue dice is as tack sharp as it could be, especially with your focus stacking. My only real nit is the top of the dish picked up some extra light, a bit distracting. I find it interesting your blue border is just a pinch lighter than the blue dice, they blend well.   Posted: 07/24/2017 21:06:57

Karen, your creativity is working overtime. I like the arrangement of dice...composition. The combination of your creative endeavors, compositional eye and your technical skills have given us another image of interest. Well done.   Posted: 07/25/2017 07:42:58

I really like the creativity here as well as the use of focus stacking. Good arrangement of the dice and the glass along with the overall presentation of the image. The blown out top is a little distracting but not too much as the focus of my eye went right to the well focused dice in the middle.   Posted: 07/25/2017 15:14:10
