About the Image(s)

I took this photo during another photo shoot with my regular group of photographers. I left the house at four in the morning with my beloved half (my wife) :), she also started taking pictures, to the Dead Sea. Before sunrise - 6 am, we were there. I went into the sea up to my waist to take this picture. Where the reinforcement of the building came from - I have no idea. The water level in the Dead Sea drops to 1.5 meters per year, to our regret.

What do you think?

I shoot in RAW format and process with Lightroom: basic adjustment, detail, texture, etc. Then I converted to B/W with filter Nick Collection - Silver Efex Pro 3. I applied the Luminar 4 filter to add some texture.

Camera settings: Leica Q2. ISO 100, 1/800s, f/11, 28mm, lens: Leica SUMMILUX 1:1.7/28 ASPH

Israel, this is a spectacular photograph... both in color and B&W. It was definitely worth getting wet! The range of tones is wonderful and the reinforcement material adds to the intrigue of the viewer. I suggest printing both versions and hanging them side-by-side on your wall. No suggestions for improvement. Well done!

Hi Pete,
I am very flattered that you do not have suggestions for editing my photo.

Thank you for your comment on the idea to print both photos.

All the best
Sincerely

I agree, this image is great in color and monochrome and I don't have much to add, other than when can I meet you there.   Posted: 03/02/2023 15:27:05

Well done Israel. I'm partial to the color version leading my eye to the back of the image. Unfortunately some one might of dumped a load of concrete and attached wire to save time and money. A terrible mindset to have.   Posted: 03/04/2023 20:50:19

Hi Bob,

Our people like to travel around the country and in general they keep the forests and mountains clean, but unfortunately there are those (as you noticed) who want to save time and money and dump construction waste into the sea.
We are struggling with this and there are not bad results.

thank you for your comment.

All the best
Sincerely

Hi Israel, I did not notice that the items in the water are building materials until I read your description. I love the color version as well as the BW. Well done! To my eye, the horizon looks just a tad crooked. I fixed that and then cropped just a small amount to put the sun directly on the one-third line. In Lightroom, I adjust the highlights and white to lessen the overexposure of the sun. Then I applied a filter in Silver Efx that gave a more dramatic (to my eye) effect. As much as we might not want to see the building debris in the water, it is arranged in a nice line that gives a pleasing flow to the image. What do you think?   Posted: 03/04/2023 22:17:15

Hi Bunny,
I always have a problem with the horizon, it seems that everything is in balance and then it turns out that it is not.
I like your dramatic editing
thank you for the detailed description of your edit.

All the best

Very nicely done, Bunny. It's difficult to improve on such an outstanding image, but somehow you've managed to do it.

Israel chooses the best subjects! I admire how he gets out with is camera group to such a variety of places, especially during sunrise and sunset. It's inspiring.   Posted: 03/07/2023 20:11:13

Good day, Israel!

Love the color version! Yup, the B&W guy sees more in the color version, though the darker interpretation of bunny's is also interesting.

Well done getting out there to visualize and find beauty in nature. I am not surprised with your results!   Posted: 03/13/2023 06:25:20
