About the Image(s)

Image name is Gleason Falls#95, in NH. And I have reprocessed using newly learnt techniques. Basically Radial tool to dodge and burn, and that I could use my mouse on the histogram to bring down the clipping whites in the water.

Hi Bob,

Lovely waterfall photograph in dramatic lighting with a nice mood. The sprinkle of light branches on the left and right sides of the frame gives the image visible texture and hold the viewer's eye in the frame. The story tells of a calm day to be in the woods with a camera.

I would recommend adjusting the highlights at the lower and upper right impact point areas. I used the healing brush and spot healing brush tools in Photoshop to recover the highlights; they both would do the trick, so this is easy.

Thanks for sharing!

You're very welcome, Bob.

I also like the edit, Emil, did for you just below this comment. There always seems to be things we can tweak in our images.

Best regards,

You captured the flow of Gleason Falls perfectly and your camera position is great.

Food for thought: Lighten the banks on each side somewhat so you see the detail there (I used LR linear gradient tool), I used the LR radial gradient to bring up the water and reduced the highlights to avoid clipping, and brightened the background area where the stream starts to draw your eye deeper into the shot, and I cropped the left side to balance the image.

Thank you Emil for your comments. I can accept those modifications, most of which I had done prior to submittal, but obviously not enough.   Posted: 02/05/2021 13:58:41

I love the softness of the waterfall. Great job capturing it. It's as if I am standing in the water!

I suggest that you lighten the areas to the side of the water a bit. There are some interesting details in rock that I would like to appreciate.   Posted: 02/15/2021 17:58:00

Bob, this is a compelling image! Your camera position was outstanding and your shutter speed was really well chosen! Nicely done!

I found that the rushing white water led my eyes to the foliage at the top of the stream. With that in mind, I played with your image a bit to further emphasize the bright area at the top. While I was at it, I manipulated the rest of the image a bit to add some detail to the dark rocks and slightly darken the trees on the sides of the stream so they didn't compete with the bright area at the top. Your thoughts?
