About the Image(s)

I like to go to antique auto & truck shows, Especially on 90+ hot days as this one in July, I only carry my 105Macro and force myself to make compositions that fit and it also removes the chances of other people in the way. I prefer old rucks because they tend to have more unusual grills and headlights. This one fit perfect. The attached original was processed for Raw in Luminar, exported in a .tiff and processed in Silver Efex using brightness controls to lighten chrome and light and darken light spots coming thru shade trees and the blue areas I wanted. Increased contrast and structure to make it pop. I made the higher contrast image vs converting the blue to Gray.

Wow, Bob! This is such a fascinating image. And, it's beautifully composed with the headlamp, grill and Plymouth providing great balance! I really like your approach of carrying only a single lens. It's a good way to make yourself think. (Smiles)

B&W works well for this image... especially with the high contrast. However, this seems to be a time that a photograph works equally well in color.

My only thought would be to slightly darken the three bars at the top of the grill and the bright reflection at the bottom. To me, this seems that it would allow the viewer to better appreciate the more interesting headlight.

Nice image!

Nicely done Bob - other than Oliver's suggestion, I could not think of anything that would make an improvement. You pretty much nailed this one in my view.   Posted: 10/06/2019 22:27:17

Nice shot Bob. B/W works great on this image. I agree with Oliver about the bars, which I like the see less over blown of those, can help recover their original texture.

I would also suggest to adjust the headlight will less highlight to help showing more detail.   Posted: 10/14/2019 15:29:05

Thanks to all for your comments. I actually used Nik Silver Efex control points to brighten up the 3 bars and the headlight lens. Looks like I got carried away with my late night edit. Thanks for the suggestions as they are all helpful.

Hi Bob,

Your car image is fantastic, well done!

The only comment I have is I agree the headlight is bordering on overly bright but just by a skosh. I do not have a problem with the grill.

I will try the lens choice you used next time I try to photograph a car.
