About the Image(s)

Happy New Year everyone! I thought this would fit the weather that the northern states is currently experiencing. The inspiration for this came from a magazine. In Rebelle, I created the background separately using washes of grey for the background. In PS, I then selected the horse & rider statue and darkened it using levels and multiply mode and made a cutout. I positioned the rider on the background and re-sized it to fit. I added a "snow" layer at the top. Finally I expanded the canvas and blurred the edges to create a border.

What an imaginative and effective transformation, Gloria. I love the snow effect and the wintery color pallet. I don't understand what the pointing things are in the lower part of the image though. They seem distracting to me. Otherwise, a great painting.   Posted: 01/14/2018 18:12:59

Thanks Elinor... I didn't notice the "pointy" things until the file was closed..and by then it was too late :( (They are supposed to be cracks on sheets of ice..but my technique was off.   Posted: 01/15/2018 12:32:05

Wow Gloria, you never seem to stop in your growth and creativity! What a complete mood change. What I lack is the shadow of the horse and the man in the snow--or it appears they are in the snow, which I love. I suppose what Elinor refers to can be considered puddles and reflections in the puddles but I too am missing of what they are reflecting. removing them both and leaving it more ambiguous may have helped with the visualization of the scene. I love the mood though. Very creative!   Posted: 01/15/2018 01:45:50

On a snowy day, would there be shadows?

There would be some Lenore since it is still light though no sun. You would still have a darker area behind or somewhere

You have real imagination Gloria. Looking at the original and compare it to your creative imagination is outstanding. Well done.   Posted: 01/15/2018 11:04:05

You continue to refine your distinct style, Gloria! I'm fairly confident I would recognize your work in the wild now. I so look forward each month to what you will share with us. Yes, the triangles are a bit distracting, but not enough to pull much focus away from the composition as a whole. I would never have guessed that the man on horseback began as a statue. Marvelous!!! d:¬{D   Posted: 01/21/2018 15:22:30
