Dancing Flower by Linda M Medine

March 2023 - Dancing Flower

About the Image(s)

I took this image at a Photography Workshop given by my club. The workshop was on still life and someone brought a light box and I put this flower on it and it is high key. I named it the “Dancing Flower”. Nikon Camera, D800, 1/250 sec, F2, ISO 6400, indoors.

Beautiful, Linda! I like the high-key effect, and backlighting the stargazer lily makes it glow from the inside. If you shot this at f/2, did you then use focus stacking to get it all in focus? Love it!   Posted: 03/03/2023 12:42:04

Linda, a beautiful shot. Sharp and nice colors. The background is quite bright for me and overpowers the flower. Maybe an off white would work better for me. I like the way it is shaped.   Posted: 03/12/2023 20:07:15

Stunning! To me, I rather think the white background makes it stand out more but maybe my monitor is not as bright as Randall's. I moved it over to my brighter monitor and I still think it works well. Might also be interesting on a black background. My only negative comment is that the lowest petal seems a little distorted - like some of it is missing. I think it's just the way it's folded back perhaps. Anyway, great work.   Posted: 03/12/2023 20:40:49

Linda, this is an amazing flower and I like the high key treatment you have used. I agree that the lowest petal seems deformed and makes my eye settle too much in that area. It might be helpful to attempt to clone in some extra petal there to make it less distracting, but I love the shape, background and color of this image. Congrats! Ingrid   Posted: 03/21/2023 15:29:12
