"Portrait of a Young Grizzly" by Manfred Mueller

October 2020 - "Portrait of a Young Grizzly"

About the Image(s)

I took this shot in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary; in north-wester British Columbia, Canada. Which is roughly on the border with Alaska.
A bit of a crop and not much more work has been done to the image.
The image was taken in late June and not all that long
after the bears wake up from their winter hibernation. Their digestive system is still a bit delicate, so they eat the sweet sedge grass growing along the banks of the estuary. Some of the bears were also digging clams on the beach, but no salmon fishing yet.
I was in a Zodiac (a small inflatable boat) when I took this shot.

Great photo! He is looking right at you. I like the catch lights in his eyes and how sharp his fur is.   Posted: 10/02/2020 20:46:26

The detail in every strand of fur you have captured is wonderful. I like the soft blurred background. Very nice image.   Posted: 10/10/2020 06:15:26
