Time Flies by Jim Hooper

About the Image(s)

This image was created just a week or so ago, as a portfolio building exchange. In processing it on New Years Eve, I thought it would be interesting to try to play on the concept of time passing. Since we'd shot it on a soft gray backdrop, I was able to drop in the concrete texture and the clock image as overlays to support the idea of the passing of time.

The image was recorded on the Nikon Z6, with a 70-200 f4 lens at f5.6, with a 1/125s shutter at ISO 100. It was lit with two Alien Bee strobes in softboxes.

Another beautifully executed image Jim. Great pose and I love the look on your model's face. Introducing the clocks onto the background was extremely well done and it is effective.

I find the camera right arm looks a bit strange. The way your model's hair falls on it, both at the elbow and at the wrist gives it a bit of a spooky and disembodied look. It's a bit hot from the light so the viewer's attention is drawn to that part of the shot. I wonder if burning it down a bit might be worth considering?   Posted: 01/02/2020 23:24:48

Beautiful! I don't know what to tell you how to improve this. I just read Manfred's post and yes I agree the arm that is bent does bother my eye.   Posted: 01/03/2020 09:06:37

Beautiful shot, Jim, lighting does not show burning areas and the effect Donna and Manfred have noticed I assume is related to the white color fabric of trousers.
The pose is very dinamic and I think you have done a good work with the background.   Posted: 01/08/2020 18:13:14

A very nice pose for a pretty model. Her makeup and your processing are fine for the casual outfit. The picture would be better if she was wearing dark pants. White is difficult because it ends up being the brightest place in the frame and distracts from her face.   Posted: 01/15/2020 17:46:45

Lovely model and great lighting. I agree all of the positive's mentioned above. The only distraction I notice are the white pants.   Posted: 01/18/2020 18:22:30
