About the Image(s)

This month I'll try to show how to reinforce the expression of the model with her hands.
The framing may be a little unusual as per portrait point of view but I think it manifests the personality of the subject by adding the physical characteristics.

The shot was taken at a studio and I was lighting the model with soft flash light and a slow shutter speed to capture the candle's light. Post process is only to give some light to separate her black hair from the background.

Olympus E3 with 14-54mm lens - F5, ISO 100, 1/15s
Spot focus and light measure.

I can see how her hands really add to her expression and the interest of the image.
I love the light. You have a remarkably sharp image; I'd never have guessed a 1/15 sec shutter speed.
It's an interesting and unusual image. Great title, and the candles really add to the image.

Personally, I'd move the candles in a bit.   Posted: 01/17/2018 17:29:36

This is a good idea and the expression and hand placement are good. The lighting is nice. I would suggest cropping down from the top to eliminate this wasted space. The crop at the bottom is a little awkward and I'd leave the lower portion of the photo as it was in the original image. Also a little skin smoothing would help.   Posted: 01/19/2018 11:48:01

Great low light portrait... Her pose and your lighting is very good. Great idea !! I do suggest moving her closer to candle and dodging the candle area. Great job.   Posted: 01/24/2018 19:38:09

Thanks Carol and the rest of photographers about the composition improvements shorting the distance modle-candels. The simulation of lighting I was in mind is the only present light is candle's one, that is why I think the column should remain in the shadows. But I accept all the suggestions.   Posted: 01/25/2018 12:17:24

Great image, Salvador. I am assuming that your shutter speed was required for the exposure of the candles and the flash, directed to the model and not the candles, was able to freeze any movement of the model. You were able to get a sharp of the model that conveys your "Fear of Fire" concept very well.

I agree with Carol that using post processing to move the candles closer improves the composition.   Posted: 01/24/2018 21:19:51
