About the Image(s)

Camera: Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Canon EF85mm f/1.8 Prime Lens
Focal Length: 85mm
Exposure: 1/125 sec; f/1.8; ISO 125

I collaborated with Ginger on December 22, 2017, while she was home for the holidays. This is one of many portraits that we created. I had her pose about 6 feet in front of an old brick wall in the studio that I use and used my 85mm prime lens, wide open. I used my White Lightning X1600 Strobe on low power in the low range with a medium sized soft box as a light modifier. In PhotoShop, I touched up some stray hairs and a couple minor blemishes with Content Aware Fill. I them cropped the image slightly to place the eyes at the 1/3 top line and Ginger’s left eye at the “power point” where the 1/3 top and 1/3 right lines cross. I did it the easy way this month. Ginger loved the final version.

Wow, great portrait!
Wonderful connection. Her expression and hands and head position all work very well together.
The colors are marvelous. It almost feels like a sepia, and then there's that nice touch of color on her lips.
Great composition. I like how her sleeve just shows at the bottom so my eye does not wander off the bottom.

One nit: the bright spots in the background are a bit distracting. Perhaps a touch of vignette might be useful.   Posted: 01/17/2018 17:54:08

Very nice posing and processing. The background is soft enough so that it doesn't distract from Ginger.   Posted: 01/19/2018 11:36:16

Beautiful model and simple pose... Great job. She has beautiful hair. Very nice skin tones. The background is a little distracting but not too bad. Great job.   Posted: 01/24/2018 19:03:58

Thanks for the compliments and comments. Ginger is an excellent model and a pleasure to work with. Great completion and fabulous hair. The background is a hundred year-old brick wall in the studio that I use, so I used my 85mm portrait lens opened to f/1.8 for a very narrow depth of field.   Posted: 01/24/2018 21:43:17

Very good portrait, good work with her eyes. It seems you have also some natural light hitting the Wall and helping to separate her from it, good combination.
Pose of the model is the one I also use to look for in my portraits, I realy like very much the presence of her hand.
Congratulations Dave.   Posted: 01/25/2018 12:42:58
