About the Image(s)
Photo was taken early evening when a light show was going on while at this Wyoming Plateau. Exposure was 1/40 sec, f3.2, and ISO 100, Pattern metering, with my Sony RX10iv. This camera does better than some in low light. I processed it in PS with a warmth color filter to primarily color the ground. Any and all comments welcome. I am interested in possibly putting it in a “Desert theme” contest later this year, so anything or process that would give it more impact and make it more competitive would be appreciated.

Rita,
This is a nice landscape "big sky" image. I like the way the plateau in the background and the pink clouds bring the eye to the center of the image. The foreground is kind of blah but this image is mostly about the sky. I might crop from the bottom to remove some of the foreground so it starts at the vegetation.   Posted: 03/09/2023 09:39:25

Thank you. What about the pink & blue saturation in the sky? Too much, not enough?   Posted: 03/09/2023 10:45:13
The saturation looks fine as is to me.   Posted: 03/11/2023 08:50:44
I really like the colors. A nice foreground ant background element. I might try a pano coming up from the bottom to those nice green bushes and down from the top just before the color. It would be all about cropping in on that triangle of orange light that is so nice.   Posted: 03/10/2023 08:06:36
I like it. As I mentioned in another of our group members photo, I also find this composition calming. Nice colors throughout.   Posted: 03/10/2023 14:29:42
I love the layers and the colors; you handled the sky nicely. I agree with Dean the plateau and sky really draw you into the image. Great job! Big open space - I love it!   Posted: 03/10/2023 16:01:18
Powerful image Rita. I love the simplicity of the composition, with the butte on an unconventional point in the frame (I try to do this too). Sky colors seem aggressive to me (in a good way), but not unnatural, having lived in the high desert of CA and seen some sunsets that just didn't seem real or possible.
I think I'd echo Dean's comments re: cropping up. In my opinion, there isn't really a strong foreground interest (I don't do a whole lot of landscapes, but I do try to think about this when I do) that precludes you from doing so. If it were me, I'd do so until what was in the foreground was truly sharp, which the closest stuff did not seem to be to me (I think that might have to do with your aperture, and focusing on the peak). If you need to lose some sky in order to keep the horizon where you want it, I think you can do that without losing anything too important in the sky (you'll have to experiment).
Anyway, strong image in my opinion.

I happen to like the crop better.   Posted: 03/13/2023 14:33:28
Too much on the colors, IMHO. But, for PSA competition? Man, that's hard to say. So much depends on the judging club and what THEY like. So, I would just go with your gut. Express yourself. Don't be limited by my sensibilities; go with YOUR sensibilities...consistently.   Posted: 03/13/2023 14:35:11
Thank you. What a good reminder!
