About the Image(s)

XT3; F/10; ISO 100; 1/125; 20 mm. Probably shot around 10:30 a.m.
I love rust. When my photo buddies and I were on our way to a farm, we saw this pile of rusted junk and we couldn't resist. I also like to get up close to rust, capturing the color and texture.
Processing: Lightroom; lightened image a bit; may have used some color grading on it to bring out the orange; probably added a bit more texture. Other than that, I don't recall doing any other processing.

Anne,
I too like the color and texture. I also like the contrast and the curved lines. There are lots of possible framing and perspectives you could have taken with this subject. See attached for one other possible one. Mostly, I got rid of some of the upper background, which is a bit distracting to me.   Posted: 03/06/2023 23:14:29

You definitely have color and texture going on here Anne. I think you could photograph this from any distance and detail, and make something abstract out of it. It's sharp, and well saturated to my eye.

This is just my opinion, but this really isn't the most moving subject. Having said that, I salute you for seeing the possibilities in everyday objects. I'm not knocking your decision to give this a shot. I think if I were going to make a suggestion, it would be to get into the details of something like this. There was obviously something interesting about this for you, and I too find beauty in the details of common objects. Explore this. Do more of it. Double down.   Posted: 03/07/2023 21:35:24

I can definitely see the rust =) The overall shot has so many things to explore. What drew you to the culvert? The contrasty repeating lines in the lower right? the face the sun made in the upper left? All the texture along the bottom of the culvert? the interplay of the soil and the culvert? I guess I am not sure what you wanted me to focus on. But the elements are interesting and lighting is adding to them. the color is bold and the background controlled.   Posted: 03/10/2023 05:48:13

We are the same age Anne! Nice clear and sharp photo. Would be more interesting to me to know more about the nearby surrounding area causing that culvert to be there. A rusty old tractor, for this ex farmer, would have peaked my interest much more. At least you are getting out and about. Sitting here in ND awaiting a blizzard later today.   Posted: 03/10/2023 14:19:06

You definitely found a rusty subject. Nice job bringing out the detail in the shadows. Good texture too. You may want to crop out that lighter rust section on the right border of the image, although I'm not sure how that will impact the tree in the background - maybe content aware fill the tree out in photoshop, just to see what it looks like. Just a suggestion. Great image.   Posted: 03/10/2023 16:08:55

Thank you everyone. My big take away from your comments is that I didn't show my "why." I told you what drew me to photograph it, but not why this particular item. If I did, I would have done more of a close up.

Thanks again.   Posted: 03/16/2023 20:40:15

If it is the detail of rust that you like, then maybe zoom in more on the detail and really show that off? Nice colors.   Posted: 03/18/2023 10:46:01
