some exposure work and some color manipulation of a bright, pink shoe that was in the background.

This guy and his owners were in a bar in Bogota' Colombia one Sunday afternoon. How could I resist taking the shot? The owner had these bright pink/purple (there's probably a name for this godforsaken color) shoes on which really messed with the impact, for me anyway. Took me several tries to edit it to the extent that the shoes didn't ruin the whole shot. I like dogs anyway, and this guy's personality just jumps off the screen for me.

DAMON,
I HOPE YOU BOUGHT THAT DOGGY A SHOT, LOOKS LIKE HE COULD USE ONE.
GOOD EXPOSURE, GOOD FRAMEWORK AROUND THE DOGS HEAD LOL..
BUT HE DOSEN'T LOOK LIKE HE'S TOO HAPPY ABOUT IT.

IF I WERE TO DO ANYTHING TO THIS IMAGE,IT WOULD BE TO CROP IN ON THE LEFT ABOUT AN INCH OR INCH AND A HALF, MAKING THE COLLAR MORE EVENLY SPACED IN THE CENTER OF THE FRAME THUS PLACING THE HAPPY FACE OFF TO THE LEFT A LITTLE.
BUT OTHERWISE NICE COMEDY SHOT   Posted: 11/06/2020 22:08:15

Thanks Richard. Not a bad idea re: the crop. Dog has a lot of personality doesn't he?   Posted: 11/06/2020 22:34:41

Oh poor boy. He does look a bit dismayed, humiliated. I cropped, darkened the top more, and lightened his eyes a bit   Posted: 11/07/2020 14:17:04

I think those changes do help you focus on the dog. You lose context, but they do put the eye right on the subject. Thanks for the input Jane.

This image to me should be titled "if looks could kill". My initial response was poor sad puppy. I like the sharpness depth of the photo. The expression on the dogs face is all I saw at first. I'm not sure that a slightly different crop would have changed that.   Posted: 11/15/2020 16:09:44

Thanks Bernie. Yeah. It's all about that expression isn't it?   Posted: 11/15/2020 17:33:38

Hah, classic world over dog expression...misery. Adorable and we've all experienced it. I love the yellow snaps leading to his face. Hope you gave him a cookie:-)   Posted: 11/20/2020 16:56:12

Hi Damon - I agree with the previous cropping comments. It was hard for me to tell that this guy was in a bar maybe leaving it un-cropped and compositing a shot glass in would help ;). I'm a sucker for a dog photo and this one is great. I think it would work in B/W just as well. That expression is priceless.   Posted: 11/30/2020 12:54:18

Thanks for the inputs Emmy. Looks like the consensus is cropping, which is nice when you get that instead of everybody going in different directions. I'll take a gander with a BnW treatment too. Thanks.   Posted: 11/30/2020 15:08:05
