rainy day by Emmy Denton

October 2020 - rainy day

This was a stormy rainy day. Just right for picture taking. We were driving home and we saw this sign for a view so we stopped - and this is the sight we saw. I took the photo from the car window using my iPhone as my Nikon camera was in the back. What a chance to see this! I edited this on my phone using photoshop. I did the normal adjustments I always do (like camera raw). The only thing that doesn’t work well is cloning. I had to zoom in a bit but still had enough pixels.

EMMY,
ONE OF THE THINGS I MISS HERE IN FLORIDA, IS BEING ABLE TO GO FOR A RIDE IN THE COUNTRY, WHERE YOU GET TO HAVE SCENES LIKE THIS, WITH THE TREES {EVEN SOME CHANGING COLORS}, OVERCAST RAINY SKIES, AND FLOWING STREAMS.
I WISH YOU DID HAVE THE TIME TO GET OUT YOUR NIKON.THE IMAGE WOULD BE MUCH BETTER IF YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE FULL "S" CURVE OF THE STREAM, NOT HAVING THE BRUSH IN THE FOREGROUND BLOCKING IT OUT WOULD BE NICE, IT WOULD ALLOW US TO FOCUS ON THE CANOERS, I DID NOTICE THAT THE PASSENGER LOOKS A LITTLE BORED, THAT WOULD HAVE ADDED SOME INTEREST.
YES I CAN SEE IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER WHERE THE CLONING DIDN'T WORK TOO WELL, AS YOU KNOW WORKING WITH THE BEST
I-PHONE THEY JUST DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PIXELS TO DO VERY MUCH.
ALTHOUGH I HOPE YOU HAD A NICE DRIVE AND I ENVY YOU

Hi Richard, it was a wonderful drive rain and all! I will try now that I'm home to fix this photo using PS and LR. Maybe I'll post it again. Thank you for your comments! Funny thing is my first digital camera the D5000 has the same resolution as my iPhone X.   Posted: 10/27/2020 00:11:19

Hey Emmy
This has a lot of good stuff. The complimentary colors are nice. The detail in the sky is interesting too, and I don't think that it being gloomy gray is a bad thing in any way. I'm sure you do wish there'd been a way to get the curves of the stream, but frankly I like the way the canoe is framed (but I wish that one stinking twig would leave it alone).

Can I suggest cropping up from the bottom a bit? I think the merest hint of that brush at the bottom would act as a sufficient frame. Just an idea...   Posted: 10/13/2020 22:59:30

Hi Damon, thank you for your kind comments. I don't know why but I really like this photo. The curves of the stream were impossible to get from the bank (I would have to be in a canoe), but I agree with you as I was hoping for the same thing... I agree with your suggestion to crop up from the bottom and perhaps darken it as well. Thanks again!   Posted: 10/27/2020 00:13:21

I love it that we all see this so differently! I love this shot. The colors and gloominess, the canoe in the perfect place. I think it would be well worth putting this on your computer so you could clone out the weirdness left sky edge. I wouldn't crop up from the bottom cause the pretty red leaves there point you right to the canoe. The branches and the lack of the whole curve don't bother me at all. SO glad you had your phone   Posted: 10/15/2020 17:38:22

Hi Jane, thank you so much for you feedback! I will edit this in PS and LR when I get a chance. I have so many shots from this trip that I don't know where to turn.... (a good problem to have). I might just cut back the branches just slightly from the bottom of the boat. It was such a charming surprising find!   Posted: 10/27/2020 00:17:06

This image makes me want to put on a jacket! I like the composition, the gloom of the sky, all the different shades of green in the trees and brush and the passenger's expression for me just adds intrigue. Is she annoyed by the weather? Bored? I am left wondering. I like the little bit of river in the background around the b end to give it depth and the tree branch in front on the right making the viewer feel like they are coming onto the scene by accident. A great story, maybe different every time you look at it. Nice!   Posted: 10/20/2020 00:49:15

Hi Dianne, thank you so much for your feedback! I guess after everyone of you liked it I will now have to go back and edit this sooner than later. :)   Posted: 10/27/2020 00:18:15
