About the Image(s)

his image was taken of a blooming Hosta plant in our backyard, which are blooming late this year due to the unusual weather. It was taken later in the day after the wind died down enough total this hand-held shot. The light was fading but I wanted the stamens in the middle to be brighter so I laid a LED flashlight underneath the flower to add more light. Taken with my Sony a6500, 70-200mm lens with 2 extension tubes added (35mm) to allow me to focus a little closer, f8, ISO 640, 1/30. I'm not sure how much the soft focus petals distract from the image; I can't be objective anymore since I was focusing so much on the stamens in the center.

I really like this Bob! I don't find the soft focus of the petals distracting at all. It adds to the photo since the stamens were meant to be the point of interest. And they are tack sharp. The background is nice and smooth as well, so the overall image is really nice.   Posted: 10/08/2019 18:13:26

Thanks Denise. Sometimes I fret too much about areas that are soft. I was happy to get this result handholding my 70-200mm f4. ;-)   Posted: 10/10/2019 13:08:27
