Winter in Missouri has been a hard one compared to the past several years. We have had lots of snow and ice and a few of the storms were back to back. I'm writing this March 2 and tonight we are suppose to get another 7 inches of snow overnight. This weather makes traveling hard for everyone but especially hard for people like me that live out in the country. There has been several days I wouldn't of made it out of my driveway, might as well anywhere else. A few weeks ago I only made it to work 1 day. Needless to say I had a bit of "Cabin Fever" so the 3rd day stuck in the house, I decided to brave the cold and get out of the house for a bit. I walked around my property admiring the pure beauty of the very reason I was feeling trapped. I loved how the ice glistened and the stillness all around was so calming.

I loved this picture the most due to the similarity between the leaves and me. The leaves, just like me, were trapped due to the ice. We were both looking out of our cages, hoping it would melt soon!

Edited in Photoshop CC 2019
-Increased the vibrancy of the leaves
-Adjusted the curves to darken the black for only the background to show more definition and depth.
-Used the blur tool to blur the background a little more
-Sharpened the edges

Wow, great image Jennifer, I luv it. The vertical format is perfect for the subject matter. Good eye to capture those frozen leaves; nice that they still had color. The three hanging chards really help make a strong composition, as does the soft background. The only thing I might add is to darken the lower left corner to match the others and help the viewer stay focused on your leaf/ice sculpture. Well done; hope it relieved some of your Cabin Fever.   Posted: 03/07/2019 17:50:05

What an interesting idea Jennifer! You really captured the essence of the leaf trapped inside the ice. Very nice focus and composition. I actually like the tone gradation of lighter background down in the left corner, then getting darker as your eye moves up in a diagonal. I don't find that bothersome to my eye. I think you added just the right amount of punch to the color as well. Nice job!   Posted: 03/10/2019 21:05:22

You've captured this little piece of winter really well. I'm always looking for leaves embedded in ice, but don't think I've ever looked up to find them? Great color and sharpness in this image. Nicely seen and captured.   Posted: 03/15/2019 13:37:26

You have used the adjustments of brightness and vibrancy in the colors to great advantage with this, in addition to the interest added from the ice. The ice formation is very clear and your focus feels right to me. Finally, I think your adjustments rendered any highlights insignificant while still retaining a very natural feel of some light hitting the surface of the ice. Nice job! And I really like the crop; its perfect for this subject!   Posted: 03/20/2019 17:51:35

This is a really nice image. The darkening of the colors of the frozen leaves really draws attention to that area. Keeping the dark area behind the leaves also emphasis the lovely colors of them. I don't see where I could offer any suggestions for improving this photo. It is very appealing to me. Thanks also.   Posted: 03/24/2019 17:07:42
