We don't often stray from our flowers, leaves and bugs, do we? But you have, and I really enjoyed the sharply detailed coin set against a perfectly solid black background. No weird highlights, either, so the lighting feels very good to me. I like it, and wouldn't do anything differently.   Posted: 01/09/2018 13:55:12

Well Lou this is a fine work. I might have named it "The Floating Lady". The focus is good and the image is crisp. Maybe another set up would have the light source to one side or another to catch the relief some more (Sorry not disagreeing Carol, just a different perspective). Nice image.   Posted: 01/10/2018 17:15:07

What??? No, vignette comment! Your light source suggestion sounds right and in fact, I actually tried two light angles. Both resulted in minor shadows resulting in the loss of the fine details on the coin. Light coming from almost a 90 degree angle worked best.
You would have laughed at the the way my tripod setup looked in order to get the right angle at so close a focal distance. Best!   Posted: 01/10/2018 20:02:25

A simple coin on a simple black background. Excellent result.   Posted: 01/29/2018 10:36:44

Always the tough subject to photograph; a shiny object! I was quite impressed that you got this detail without glare and hot spots. So for me, your lighting was spot on if your objective was a good representation of this coin and all of it's fine details. Nice!   Posted: 01/29/2018 19:15:59
